Nursing was never a career Jackie considered pursuing, but once she saw nurses in action at a local emergency room, she knew she wanted to be a part of the profession. Like most nurses, Jackie started her career as a bedside nurse in a hospital. It was there she realized the aspects of nursing she loved the most: patient education and staff training. In pursuit of a nursing role that provided her more quality time to learn from and teach each patient and colleague, she became a home health care nurse in 1992, working as both a field health clinician and staff educator. Soon it became apparent that she had a facility for developing and implementing engaging patient and staff educational materials. Yet, she found it frustrating that her employer did not allow her to create a self-study format for courses consisting of purely cognitive content and blended-learning programs for content requiring both cognitive and psychomotor skills.
Moreover, her employer seemed unwilling to incorporate unique, yet relevant topics to the menu of classes. She made up her mind then to start her own continuing education unit (CEU) company, which she did in 1994, being the first company to provide self-study and blended-learning courses for assisted living care facilities, nursing homes, and home health care agencies nationwide. As she had hoped, the self-study courses eliminated or reduced the logistical problems, time wasted, and money ill-spent with traveling to classes for long-term care administrators, as well as freed up nursing supervisors from the time-intensive and costly process of designing and providing onsite continuing education programs for home health aides, nursing assistants, and certified nurse aides. But even more, the courses allowed all these healthcare providers to do what they wanted to do, i.e., spend more time with their patients.
A few years later all the self-study courses were reformatted to make them also compatible for blended-learning and instructor-led settings. The reception was overwhelmingly positive, prompting Jackie and her team to offer even more courses nationwide. By 2021, the old website could no longer manage the volume of orders, and so Educational Providers of America, Inc. developed a new website to improve the ease of receiving continuing education courses.
Early in the development of the company, Paulette joined the Educational Providers of America team. Paulette brings 30+ years of working in the healthcare industry, especially in the role of customer service. She is the go-to person for explaining the ordering process to providing details about products and services to everything in between, and often will be the helpful, cheerful person you communicate with by telephone or email.
Throughout the years, Educational Providers of America, Inc. has had many writers, contributors, clinicians, and editors assist it with providing its customers with the most accurate and up-to-date information, but rest assured a registered nurse authors or co-authors each Educational Providers of America, Inc. course.
